Terms of Service.
Last updated August 2026 · Beta stage
These terms cover use of the Universe Engine, including its paid subscription plans. The product itself is still in public beta — its limits and features are still being tuned — but the commercial terms below (billing, cancellation, and what happens to your data) are real and in effect today, not placeholders.
Your world, your ownership
You own what you create. The Universe Engine stores and organizes your world's canon on your behalf; we don't claim ownership over the characters, events, or artifacts you generate and accept into it.
Subscriptions and billing
Starter, Creator, and Studio are paid monthly subscriptions, billed through Stripe. Beta remains free, with no payment required. Current pricing and what's included in each plan is always shown on the pricing page — plan limits are still being tuned as we learn from real usage, so treat that page, not this document, as the source of truth for exact numbers.
Cancellation
Cancel a paid plan any time from your account's billing settings. You keep full access through the end of the period you've already paid for — cancelling doesn't cut you off immediately. When that period ends, your account reverts to the free Beta plan. Nothing about cancelling deletes your universes, artifacts, or canon; everything you've built stays exactly as it was.
Payment issues
If a payment fails, AI-generation features pause immediately until it's resolved — we don't extend a grace period on this. Your existing work stays safe and accessible while you sort out payment; nothing is deleted or locked away because of a failed charge.
Usage limits
Each plan includes a monthly allowance across generations, questions, and analysis runs — see the pricing page for current numbers. Limits reset on a calendar-month boundary. Reaching a limit pauses new AI actions until the next reset; it doesn't trigger extra charges, and everything you've already created remains fully available.
Refunds
Payments are non-refundable, except where required by law. If something's gone wrong on our end — a billing mistake, a broken feature you paid for and couldn't use — contact us and we'll make it right on a case-by-case basis.
What happens to your data
Your universes, artifacts, and canon are never deleted because you cancelled, downgraded, or had a payment fail. If cancelling drops you below a plan's limits — more active universes than Beta allows, for instance — your existing universes stay exactly as they are; you just can't create new ones past the limit until you're back on a plan that covers them. See our Privacy Policy for how we handle your data more broadly.
Acceptable use
Don't use the Universe Engine to generate content that's illegal, that harasses or targets real people, or that attempts to abuse or circumvent the platform's usage limits and safeguards.
No warranty, beta stage
The service is provided as-is during beta, without a warranty of uptime, data durability, or fitness for any particular purpose. We're building this in the open at an early stage — don't rely on it yet for anything you can't afford to lose or redo.
